Artist Statement:

Born in Romania in 1993 and now based in London, UK, Ioana is an energetic figurative artist whose oeuvre revolves around myths, legends, and the human psyche. Ioana started her first project in 2015 in Bucharest as she
was inspired by people with mental health disorders. She researched the topic by talking to and photographing homeless people with mental health issues and assisting with patients' therapy to experience first-hand what she saw. Currently, Ioana is deepening her research into myths, focusing on femininity in Ancient Greek texts. Her work brings a contemporary approach to the idea of a''goddess'' as a celebration of beauty, innocence, and power. She is intrigued by the sharp antagonism between how goddesses were portrayed over time, sometimes as beauty icons and sometimes as grotesque monsters. Her mysterious paintings depict a fantasy world built with artificial lights, gradients, cosmic elements, wild animals, and women as the main subject. The scenes are usually executed on a large scale to offer a more monumentality effect in a technique that combines oil painting with new pigments
(neon, gold, and shimmer tones), collages, and spray paint on linen or canvas support. Ioana's background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts- Painting and a Master's Degree in 'Strategies in Creation in Painting' from the
National University of Arts Bucharest. During her master's degree, she was awarded a scholarship to study at Brera Fine Arts Academy in Milan. Her paintings were exhibited nationally and internationally, in institutions and spaces such as the Royal Academy of Arts London, Koppel X, Spazio San Vidal Biennale Viterbo-Venice, and Art Safari
Bucharest. She has been interviewed by avariety of online and print publications, including Issue no 2 London Paint Club
