About the Artist:

My collage pieces start with a single word prompt. Picture a tea bag being lowered into a cup of steaming, hot water. The hot water is my brain and the word is the tea bag. As the word steeps in my brain it begins to release its essence to me in the form of a distant idea of what I want to say about it. Then the basic elements of the piece begin to reveal themselves and begin to float in my mind. Then I get to work scavenging my collection of books, magazines and other ephemera to find the imagery to bring that vague visual idea into focus. At that stage in the process I am led by color and composition with regards to the imagery I choose for the piece.

I avoid being too literal in my interpretation of the word that inspired the artwork into existence. Every viewer comes to see my art from their own perspective based upon their own personal life experience. I enjoy learning what it is that drew them to favor one piece over another. Every answer is different and I love that!
