Additional Information:

Eagle Medicine connects one to the Spirit World, challenging and inspiring one to grow, to reach skyward beyond the earthly reality to other spiritual realms, deepening one's relationship to Creator, one's Ancestors, and those that one has lost. Eagle, flies the highest, thus, carries one's messages of gratitude, concerns, along with one's intentions sky bound to the Creator having them heard.
The Eagle Medicine Hand Purse was conceptualized and made a reality by Grace challenging her comfort with spirit and beading style, ultimately, growing in who she is as a leather and beadworks artist. Having Creator awaken the spirit of the hide. Grace seeing the resulting vision of the beaded eagle as it was summoned. Resulting in, the added details being incorporated, and splashes of colors being eloquently placed, truly, capturing Eagle's beauty and wisdom as it travels skyward.

About the Artist:

Grace Archie is Thompson (Nlaka'pamux) from the Boston Bar First Nation (Tuckkwiowhum) - Father's side, along with European and Shuswap (Secwepemc) from the Canim Lake Band (Tsq'escen) - Mother's side.
She was raised in Little Fort, BC, spent many of her summers in Canim Lake with her mother, siblings, and maternal grandparents, and currently resides in Canim Lake, BC on the Reserve. She is a well-respected Elder in community.
Grace was 16 years old when she started sewing and made many of her own clothes. She then learned how to bead from her daughter, Gladys (Art by Gladys) when she was in her late 50's, beading several of the leatherwork pieces she created. She has since focused her artwork largely on creating custom art wearables, including, purses, bags, and pouches, to name a few. Her natural talent in leatherworks comes from her late father, George Gordon Angus.
Grace and Gladys, not only share the same birthday, they often collaborate together on their custom creations.
All of Grace's beaded and various custom designed leatherworks are made from smoked, traditional tan hides that Gladys, her daughter, sources from the local communities of the Cariboo area and Northern part of BC.
For Grace, creating her custom art leatherworks, is a joy!
