About the Artist
Exploration of sculptures and charcoal drawings are the nature of Dominic Ibe Ajike's works, whose aim is to capture realistic forms comprising of human figures and natural forms. As a realist, his works adopt themes based on everyday life with focus on religion, culture, human struggles, and sentiments which makes his art works serve as a tool of aesthetic appreciation and social commentary. He uses solid mediums in metal and Charcoal to display the beauty of his works of which the outcome expresses the basic concept of human existence.
The artist perceives art not just as the exploration of materials but as a message of great value that connects to the soul; some of his works also reflects his culture as an indigene of Ohafia in Abia State. The artist is vastly inspired by Dotun Popoola, a metal sculptor of human and animal forms widely known as metal bender.
Dominic lives and practices in Nigeria and. he is finishing his final year as a student at University of Benin in Nigeria.
