Artist statement:

I call myself visual artist instead of just collage artist, because I express myself in different artistic ways like writing, photographing, also a little bit of painting and all of these disciplines intersect and make up my collages and myself.

A glimpse of my collages shows images pasted together with no apparent reason, dancing in incoherence, an explosion of colors and textures, a lot of information in a small space. What that quick glance gives is curiosity to continue observing, my collages invite you to observe, interact and interpret. On many occasions, those who see them find details that I have not intentionally created or they even invent small scenarios or worlds that have not even crossed my mind. However, many times it is the opposite; I deliberately mix images and present compositions that perhaps no one will discover, this is how I enjoy hiding symbols and little details in my collages.

I like to communicate through compositions made with clippings and papers, mainly taken from magazines, brochures, newspapers, books, also with fabrics, beads, watercolors, writings, threads, feathers, tetrapack and generally any material or object that I like. My art pieces speak through the images that I compose with clippings and also through color and textures.

I think I discovered the reason why I chose this technique after trying other disciplines such as painting with oil, acrylic and drawing, which did not give me any satisfaction, since I did not get results that I really loved, that would identify me in what I wanted to communicate. So in the very beginning I started making collages just for fun, printing and cutting poor quality photos and painting them with pencils, then I made a collage on a piece of paper, on a table, on a wall and other surfaces. That was an activity parallel to my work as a lawyer, to my "normal" life.

Years later, when I left that life I started traveling so I used the collage as a tool to pay for the trip by selling collage decorated paintings and objects. At that moment I realized that I could no longer live without doing it, I had found a way to express myself that made me feel comfortable, calm and flowing, now it is something that is part of my life and accompanies me on my journey.

Finally, I can say that I never stop learning, I want to keep improving my technique and testing new ways to develop it, new surfaces, new materials, a new concept for my exhibition, understanding that the collage is in constant transformation, it never ends, I never know when a piece is finished already. That is why I feel connected with this discipline, because is like myself in a lot of aspects.
