Lisa Henderson is a local artist and a CK Volunteer. She generously donated her time and talent to capture the spirit and beauty of two of Cathedral Kitchen's meal guests, Jacob and Rosa, in these two 8x10 framed colored pencil portraits.

Both Jacob and Rosa gave permission to have their portraits made and auctioned to benefit Cathedral Kitchen. They also received framed copies of their individual artwork as a token of appreciation for sharing their stories and images for this event. Here are their stories:

Rosa, originally from Camden, was a lifelong bodybuilder and worked as a crossing guard and restaurant worker before she developed Muscular Dystrophy. Confined to a wheelchair, she and her boyfriend, who is her sole caregiver, are housing insecure. They come to Cathedral Kitchen for meals, groceries, and a sense of community. They are on the waiting list for government housing and hope to be in a new home before the cold winter months ahead.

Jacob, originally from Florida, was employed as a firefighter before he suffered a heart attack at age 39. Due to his cardiac issues, including frequent seizures, he could no longer work. He moved to Camden to be with his brother. For the past four years, Jacob has experienced housing insecurity. He comes to Cathedral Kitchen for meals and services. He is working with our Empowerment Team to secure some stability in his life.

If the winning bidder is not present at Harvest for Hunger, it will be available for pick up at Cathedral Kitchen's office (1514 Federal Street, Camden) the week of November 6 and 13 from 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM. If you require special accommodations, we will work with you to arrange a contact-free delivery (within Camden and Burlington Counties).
