Marietta P. Juanico was born and raised on the Pueblo of Acoma Indian Reservation. She has committed her time and heart as a school teacher for over 22 years with the Acoma Head Start Programs, and is currently teaching at the Haak'u Learning Center. Part of Marietta's educational skills also includes teaching the Acoma Keres Language to the young children.
As a young child, Marietta spend much of her time at old Acoma with her grandmother Helen Z. Patricio. It was then that her grandmother encourage her get the feel of working with the traditional Acoma clay making small pots and figurines. Today, Marietta is considered to be one of many Master Acoma Pottery Artisans creating attractive and inspirational native pottery. Her unique style is well recognized with the different shapes and designs/patterns as part of her artwork. Marietta showcases her traditional pottery in the well known Santa
Indian Market, Heard Museum Indian Fair & Market, Phoenix, Az., and the
Memorial Day Weekend Native Treasures Indian Market, Santa Fe.
Marietta is married to Melvin Juanico, with three children, Joshua, KatieAnn, MaryHelen, and four grandchildren, Ellianna, Diego, JulieMae, and EmmaRae.

The donated item for the 2023 St. Joseph School Fundraising Gala is a small
traditional pottery measuring approximately 4"x 4". Marietta still uses the yucca
(plant) brush to design her pottery. The fine line patterns represent "RAIN". The
brown color/patterns represent the "CLOUDS". Red color patterns represent the
"SUN", and the whiteness of the pot "Mother Earth".

This piece is not for auction on givesmart, it will only be available to those in person for the live auction.
