Lance Lichtensteiger's carving of a flying Common Tern beautifully captures the grace and elegance of this dramatic bird. She is swooping gracefully above driftwood and can be rotated to display as needed. This flying tern is carved from reclaimed American Wormy Chestnut and stained to preserve the wood's grain and texture.
American Chestnut was easily worked with basic hand tools, so much of this wood ended up as cabins and furniture. Lance sculpts the Chestnut he has reclaimed from old cabins that are set to be demolished. He has been carving and painting from his studios for more than 50 years, often summering in Surf City, NJ.
Mounted sculpture measures 12" high. Allow a 20" x 20" space for display.
