Making this piece was an awesome experience for me. It took me out of my artistic comfort zone and pushed my personal art making boundaries. Amy Levy, whom I've met once in person but feel like I've known longer, was the inspiration behind this piece. After our meeting I came away with a clear sense of what I hoped to convey on the canvas. Amy is a passionate, colorful, and warm individual. She spoke eloquently about her dearest relationships; ones that have been interweaved with stories of cancer. One story that stuck with me was about how she uses her yoga classes to build back confidence in breast cancer survivors. She is an activist, yogi, a mother, a daughter, and a friend. I reinforced the triangle yoga pose with the shapes in the background and created a tapestry flowing into the figure. My hope is that the painting is uplifting and freeing.
