Designed as the first 18-hole golf course in central Ohio by renowned Scottish-born architect Donald Ross, it later became the Club where golf's greatest player, Jack Nicklaus, learned the game. During its Centennial year in 2016, the Club again hosted the U.S. Senior Open marking its sixth major championship held at Scioto. Scioto provided the connection between the two greatest names in golf in the 20th Century, that of Jones and Nicklaus. The golf course has been acclaimed around the world as a strategic routing and a course that demands precise shot-making. In its history, the Club boasts four golf professionals (Club professionals George Sargent, Jack Grout, and Walker Inman, Jr. and legendary Jack Nicklaus) that are in the PGA Hall of Fame. The golf course, recently renovated in 2021 by Andrew Green, used the 1926 "Dodo Bird" drawing to restore the original Donald Ross course that hosted the 1926 National Open and the 1931 Ryder Cup. Fairway widths were widened to original size, Ross designed features such as hummocks and flat bottom bunkers were again restored to showcase the original design while built for the modern player. Features that were removed in previous renovations, were restored and the greens were rebuilt in the style that represented the era when the course first opened over 100 years ago. Today, the course provides a great test to the finest players in the world, ready to host major championships, and yet is one that is most enjoyable for all levels of players.

Opened in 1911 and built by its first golf professional, W.H. "Bert" Way, the Mayfield course features rolling terrain, tree lined fairways and two streams that run through the 235 acre property. Known for its fine conditioning and fast greens, the course offers unique challenges to all types of players. With par at 71, it is easy to be deceived, as there are five par three holes. From any length players find themselves with varying lies which require shots to be hit to small, undulating and well bunkered greens. The tournament course record of 63 by Byron Nelson (1941) has yet to be broken.

Founded in 1894 in Akron, Ohio, Portage Country Club is one of the oldest clubs in America. The Club's founding members were Charles C. Goodrich (the son of Dr. Benjamin F. Goodrich, the founder of B.F. Goodrich Company), Charles G. Raymond (an executive at B.F. Goodrich Company) and Bertram G. Work (also an executive at B.F Goodrich Company).

Portage's 18-hole golf course was designed in 1918 by famed architect William B. Langford.

In 1936, A.W. Tillinghast, the famous architect who designed Winged Foot Golf Club, Baltusrol Golf Club, Bethpage State Park, San Francisco Golf Club and many other renowned golf courses, did reconstructive work to Portage's course. In 2014, Portage hired Schreiner Golf, Inc. to reconstruct its bunkers, improve drainage and do other renovations to the golf course. Otherwise, the course has more or less remained in its original state since inception.. The course is challenging yet fun and offers some of the best short and long range practice facilities in the area.
