Born in 1981 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Amanda Lechner is a visual artist based in New Mexico and Virginia. Her work focuses on drawing and painting, exploring themes of experimentation and discovery through egg tempera paintings, ink drawings, and installations. Influenced by quantum physics, alchemy, and science fiction, Lechner's art has been exhibited throughout the United States.
She earned a BFA with Honors from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2003 and an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2005. After her studies, she lived in Brooklyn, NY, and has been in Santa Fe, Iowa, and Indiana since 2014. Lechner is an Assistant Professor of Painting at Virginia Tech and has previously taught at Indiana University and SUNY Purchase College. She has been an artist-in-residence at Penland School of Crafts, Wassaic Project, Stoveworks, and Skowhegan School. As an independent arts organizer, she has curated and hosted numerous exhibitions.
