Tom Corbin
Woman at the Center
Bronze sculpture
28.5" x 5" x 23"
2011
Tom Corbin has built a significant reputation for his unique bronze figures and his bronze furniture designs that bridge the divide between functional and fine art. He splits his time between sculpting and painting in his Rosedale, Kansas studio, the Corbin Bronze Firehouse, which houses the business's galleries, offices and sculpture garden. In 2022, Tom's monumental sculpture of President Harry S. Truman was unveiled in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda as part of the Statuary Hall Collection.
Corbin's "Woman at the Center" is limited edition, signed and numbered. Not quite bas relief and not quite freestanding sculpture, the Screens series blurs the line between two and three dimensional objects with an ambiguity that adds to the tension of the piece.
"I was inspired to take various forms-some figurative, some organic, some symbolic and add a perimeter frame to bring focus to the positive space and enhance the negative space."
