Warren Rosser, the William T. Kemper Distinguished Professor of Painting, recently retired after 28 years as Chair of the Painting Department at the Kansas City Art Institute. Born in South Wales, UK, Rosser moved to the U.S. in 1972. Although trained as a painter, his artistic journey includes sculpture and mixed media constructions. In 1998, Rosser returned to painting, exploring it in its broadest sense. His work often features constructed elements using fabric and carpet, existing on both the wall and floor.
Recently, he has shifted back to traditional oil painting on canvas, focusing on abstract forms, architectural space, and the nuances of color. Printmaking also plays a significant role in his practice, especially in his monoprints, where he layers color transparencies to create deep, implied spaces. Rosser has had solo exhibitions all over the world including in Kansas City, St. Louis, St Joseph, Omaha, London, Germany, Italy and Scotland.
