Bid on this 2-bottle set of Wines donated by Merlo Family Vineyards. 1 Bottle is a 2017 Syrah. This Syrah is dense purple black with a crimson edge, it is almost intimidating in appearance. The nose gives classic Syrah notes of pepper and black cherries and blueberries, while the barrel aging adds a touch of cedar and coconut. The palate if full and deep with a welcome lift of acidity.
Bottle #2 is a 2018 Pinot Noir- This wine is a little shy for the first few minutes in the glass and needs to be allowed to breath. After a minute, an elegant and savory bing and black cherry note evolves. On the palate the wine shows subtle and velvety tannins, full fruit flavors and a pleasant minerality. Oak is not a big player in this wine but rather plays a minor supporting role to the voice of the vine in the presentation of this true burgundy.
The Merlo Family Vineyards estate is located on the riverbanks of the wild and scenic South Fork of the Trinity River at the southern tip of Trinity County. Surrounded by 8,000 ft intercoastal mountains on all sides, these isolated vineyards are higher than most California vineyards at an elevation of 1,250 feet. Over 45 acres are currently planted with a variety of grape types using quality clone on terroir and site-specific rootstocks. Their vineyards include blocks of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and Syrah.
