Oyster Tray & Dish Set
Hiroe Hanazono is a long-standing member of The Clay Studio community. Her work focuses on the production of tableware - plates, bowls, tumblers and serving pieces - beautifully designed and realized through slip casting and softly colored glazed surfaces. This Oyster Tray and serving dishes are a stunning example of her artistic skill and a beautiful serving piece to add to your collection. Also included is a gift card from Fishtown Seafood for the first round of oysters to put in this amazing serving dish.
Hiroe states:
My desire as an artist is to create pots that serve not only as a vehicle for the presentation of food, but also to transcend visual pleasure and to stimulate appetite. The work I make is a pedestal for food. My intention is to reinforce the act of eating as a vital component of everyday life, to enrich our appreciation of the food and to enhance the ambiance of one's space, one's home environment. The minimal design of my forms creates an ideal setting for the horizontal display of food. Simple forms allow for the potential of beautiful relationships between the space and the elements contained within them.
Hiroe was born in Ibaraki, Japan. She received her BA in Spatial Art and Ceramics from the California State University, Hayward and her MFA in Ceramics from the School of Art, Ohio University, Athens, OH. Hanazono was the 2008-2009 recipient of The Clay Studio's Evelyn Shapiro Foundation Fellowship.
