1Linda Cordell - Double Dog
10 in x 23 in x 9.75 in
Known for creating animal forms with a touch of the disturbing, Linda Cordell was a Resident Artist at The Clay Studio from 1998-2002. During this time, Cordell received a fellowship from the Evelyn Shapiro Foundation and was mentored by Paula Winokur.
Working primarily in porcelain, Cordell is a skilled craftswoman who renders her subjects with an attention to detail that is simultaneously captivating and uncomfortable. Cordell's goal is to move representations of animals beyond the trappings of cuteness or the idea of noble savagery. This two-headed dog is a perfect example of Cordell's work and sure to capture your attention (if not your heart).
Cordell received her BFA from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, Alfred, NY, and her MFA from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA. Her work has been exhibited in multiple galleries in both the United States and abroad. Cordell was a 2003 Pew Fellow and has received multiple grants and fellowships for her work.
