Jeff Oestreich - Soda Fired Bowl
4.5 in x 6.5 in 6.25 in
An elegant combination of form and function, this triangular bowl would make an excellent addition to your collection. A highly regarded studio potter, Jeff Oestreich frequently experiments with glazes and decorative techniques, an exploration into color and texture that is evident in this piece. Featuring rich earth tones with a celadon green underbelly, its understated beauty is sure to be appreciated.
Trained in the austere simplicity of traditional Asian pottery while serving as an apprentice to Bernard Leach in England in the 1960s, each of Oestreich's works are carefully constructed and infused with history. Oestreich has a passion for Art Deco design that often finds expression in his work, a fusion of styles and eras that contribute to truly one of a kind pieces.
An early exhibitor at The Clay Studio, Oestreich is considered by many to be one of the premier potters working in the United States. Oestreich has exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide, his work can be found in the outstanding collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Incheon World Ceramic Center, the Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art among others. Every year Oestreich and other artists open their studios for the annual pottery tour in the St. Croix Valley.
