Vitanola was one of the earliest independent phonograph companies based out of Chicago. They got their start in 1915 and continued through the first half of the 1920s into the early radio era. This is a long life for one of these independent phono companies as many folded within a few months to a few years. Almost all of them were killed off during a recession in 1921 and the few that were left were killed off by the radio boom a couple of years later.
