Ammonites were shelled cephalopods that first appeared in the fossil record 450 million years ago and went extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period 66 million years ago. Their fossils are found all over the world and are nicknamed "snakestones" due to their distinctive coiled snake-like appearance. These creatures were ocean-dwelling mollusks that had chambered shells for buoyancy. These chambered shells are beautifully preserved as fossils.

Measures 10 inches at widest point. Comes with stand.
