Last June, Meals on Main Street held our first Swing into Summer event at Westchester Country Club in Rye, NY. More than 350 guests joined us for a beautiful evening outdoors to enjoy a cocktail reception, live music and auction, while raising funds for an additional mobile food pantry truck.
This year we are hoping to make our June 9th event even bigger and better, and we need your help!
Our goal is to raise $500,000 to help fill our trucks, allowing us to distribute close to 1.5 million pounds of food. We source this food from local farms, through food recovery from local supermarkets and food distributors, and donations from the community. By supporting MOMS you are helping your friends and neighbors throughout Westchester County.

Let's Celebrate our Honoree Terence Linehan!
What a difference a decade makes! Terence walked through the door of Caritas of Port Chester, Inc. in late December 2013, looking to make a year-end donation. He announced himself with these words, "I'm interested in helping feed hungry people." He was given a brief tour and despite the meager surrounding, or perhaps because of them, he realized help can come in many ways. Of course, we accepted his donation and by April of 2014, he was a member of our Board of Directors.
When asked about his contribution to the organization, Terence focuses on the many hours he has volunteered in our pantry, helping to set up the racks, organize the food, assist the customers in shopping and walking them out to their cars with bags loaded. He never mentions the countless hours devoted to board meetings and all the decisions that needed to be made to shepherd us from infancy to adolescence. Those were volunteer hours as well, but as Terence says, "It goes with the job."
And that job, since 2017 has been Board President. With two years of moderate growth before the pandemic under his belt, he was ready for the real challenge, Covid, which, he battled on two fronts. (His other job involved getting vaccines out to the world as a Pfizer exec.) So, we are honoring a man who managed to keep a cool head in the face of chaos and uncertainty, saving lives on multiple fronts, and helping us emerge as a new entity, Meals on Main Street (MOMS), well-positioned to face the challenges ahead.
Please join us in honoring our outgoing leader and friend, before he heads off to new adventures in Colorado.
Meet our Emcee Richard Giacovas
You can find Richard Giacovas most nights on both "The 5 O'Clock News and "The 10 O'Clock News" on FOX 5, where he's been a reporter since May of 2019.
During his time at FOX 5, Richard has reported on everything from presidential visits to the annual 9/11 Tribute in Light at Ground Zero. He also covers the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting ceremony and has led FOX 5's New Year's Eve coverage for four consecutive years. One of the most prominent moments in his career thus far was when Richard was reporting on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, reporting on the streets of New Rochelle when the first community-spread case of coronavirus was detected in the city.
Richard loves telling local, human interest stories in Westchester County to the FOX 5 audience. Prior to FOX 5, he covered the streets of the Hudson Valley as a reporter for News 12 networks. Richard is the recipient of a New York Emmy award, Westchester's "40 Under 40 Rising Star Award" and 914 Inc.'s "Westchester Wunderkinds Award."
When he's not on TV, you can find Richard at the gym or at the beach. He loves trips, especially ones to Disney World. Richard calls Rye home and loves spending time with his wife, Jenna, and their two children Aria and Jesse.

Meals on Main Street, Who Are We?
The mission of Meals on Main Street (MOMS) is to Build Community through Food. Our goal is to engage the entire community in the battle to eliminate food insecurity and to do so with dignity and respect for every member of our society. How do we do this:
- We prepare and distribute 700-900 meals per day
- We source, through food recovery, donation, and purchase, more than 600,000 pounds of food. And we hope to double that next year.
- We operate by delivering groceries, fresh produce, and prepared meals throughout Port Chester and locations in Westchester County, including Ossining and New Rochelle.
MOMS is unique because, while many pantries and kitchens depend on people coming to them for food, we bring the food to where the people live, allowing us to reach our clients wherever they are. How do we do this:
- Currently our two Mobile Food Pantry Trucks (a third is on the way) allow us to make 8-10 trips per week, per truck, throughout the community
- The Pop-Up Pantry sites include churches, schools, senior residences as well as locations run by our community partners
- Our trucks are stocked with fresh produce, eggs, dairy and the staples for a healthy diet. This provides a farmer's market environment for our clients to shop, while we support local farms and reduce food waste in our community.
We continue to seek out and share information with other organizations. This culture of collaboration and cooperation has opened up new horizons for us, and will continue to do so. We are truly building community through food.
