"Mr. October". Ask any Yankee fan when Reggie Jackson earned that unique moniker and you will immediately get the clear answer - the 1977 World Series, specifically Game 6 of that World Series. Jackson's unmatched performance in that game earned Jackson that nickname and also our Greatest Moment in Yankee History for the 1970s
After the first 5 games of the series, the Yankees led the NL champion Dodgers 3-2, needing to clinch the series in Yankee Stadium rather than risk a Game 7. Going into Game 6, Reggie was red hot, having hit home runs in each of Game 4 and Game 5. But in Game 6, the Yankees were facing an equally red hot Burt Hooton, who had shut down the Yankees in Game 2, throwing a complete game and giving up only 1 run and 5 hits. In Jackson's first at bat in Game 6, he did not see a strike, as Hooton walked him on four straight balls. In his next at bat in the fourth inning with the game tied, Reggie blasted Hooton's first pitch to the delirious fans in the stands in right field, giving the home town heroes the lead. The very next inning, facing Elias Sosa, Jackson crushed another two-run home run deep into the right field stands on the very first pitch. In Reggie's next at bat, this time in the eighth inning against Charlie Hough, Jackson again hit the first pitch he saw, this time homering 450+ feet to deep center field.
Jackson became only the second player in World Series history to hit three home runs in a game. The first player to do so? Babe Ruth hit three in both the 1926 and 1928 World Series. But Jackson hit his three HRs on three consecutive pitches against three different pitchers. Jackson was the easy choice for MVP of the 1977 World Series, hitting .450 with five home runs. It also cemented his status as "Mr. October."
We have framed a Career Highlight #44 "stats jersey" that has been personally autographed by Mr. October. The jersey contains the highlights of Jackson's career, including his best known nickname (Mr. October, in case you weren't reading the rest of this description), his status as a five- time World Series Champ and two-time World Series MVP, his 563 career HRs and his 1993 induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. We have also included an authentic original ticket to the incredible Game 6 of the 1977 World Series.
Includes certificates of authenticity from JSA (for the jersey) and PSA/DNA (for the ticket).
