A few years ago, NEISD set aside 22 acres of land for the development of an ROTC training complex named Camp Henson. Currently, the 22-acre complex features an 11 obstacle challenge course, a rescue evacuation course, a rope bridge training course, and a sprint marksmanship course.

However, Camp Henson is missing one significant piece of equipment, a rappel tower. The rappel tower is a wonderful opportunity to overcome one's fears, increase independence and self-confidence, and develop a multitude of other life skills such as leadership, teamwork, and trust.

This year's Fund-A-Need will supply NEISD's Army Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (AJROTC) with a rappel tower at Camp Henson. In January, nearly 40 Madison High School JROTC cadets visited Camp Bullis to take on the Army's rappel tower. For many, this new experience further tested their bravery and conquered their fears. JROTC Programs at NEISD schools continuously encourage cadets to take on new challenges and face them head-on.

With 925 cadets enrolled, NEISD AJROTC has grown to become one of the most popular elective activities offered. Over the years, our competitive teams have earned local, state, and national titles, making them among the very best in the country. In addition, our cadets have earned millions of dollars in scholarships and attended the country's most prestigious universities. Many have chosen to answer the call of service and proudly serve our Nation in the armed forces. Others have joined the workforce as highly productive members of society.
