Paola Nesmith Necklace
$60Red Leather Necklace
Member The Artist Enclave of Historic Kenwood
https://azucenaverde.wordpress.com/
Small treasures from around the world assembled with restless imagination by Paola Nesmith of Azucena Verde. These individually handcrafted necklaces and other small items from fibers and fabrics, charms and amulets, semiprecious stones, glass and metals, reflect a world from tribal chic to whimsical elegance.
For years, Paola Nesmith has been collecting jewels, stones and materials from around the world, but waited for the proper inspiration to begin crafting with them.
When her daughter worked in Iraq in 2006 and asked her to make her some earrings, it launched what would eventually become Azucena Verde. She uses her craft to stifle her worried mind and her unbounding nervous energy. Once Paola started, she couldn't stop.
Originally from Rome, Italy, Paola moved to the U.S. in 1969, then spent 22 years in Puerto Rico before returning to the States to join her daughter in St. Petersburg in 2017 after Hurricane Maria devastated the island.
The name Azucena Verde or Green Azucena derives from the wonderfully aromatic azucena flower prominent in Puerto Rico. The Green represents new endeavors and how life affords people the opportunity to constantly reinvent themselves.
You can visit Paola on Second Saturday Art Walks at her studio (112) in the ArtsxChange in the Warehouse Art District, or by appointment.

Early on in life, I developed a unique way of looking and seeing, hearing and listening with a sensitivity to the challenges of everyday life. I call my process "Reconstruction," as I reconstruct and verbalize my observations and familial and societal situations through the vitality of pre-tooled wood and metal components. The process of finding these beautifully tooled, abandoned pieces and putting them together is a reconstruction of how I see people constructing their life situations. Many years of working on craft development in developing countries, heightened my need to convey a clear message of the pain and pathos of everyday life through my work.

Jeneca Luckey was born and raised in Columbia, Missouri. She has had a passion for art since she was a child and picked up her first crayon. Her love of art eventually led her to enroll at Columbia College where she studied Graphic Design and Silversmithing. It was there she learned that she would much rather get her hands dirty making wearable pieces of art, than sit behind a desk at a computer making art. This experience, coupled with a move to Florida in 2015, introduced her to a world of new opportunities and ideas. She fused her passion of mixed media art and jewelry making, with her love of the beach, and created her own wearable piece of art - a Seashell Crown.
In August of 2016, she opened her own business named Jeneca's FantaSEA. Since then, she has sold hundreds of Seashell Crowns all across the United States. She makes them for beach brides, mermaid costumes, birthday crowns, pageants, gifts, and more. Every Crown is handmade by her, and one of a kind. Making each one as special and unique as the person who wears it!
