Opera Philadelphia, tickets for two to Verdi's Simon Boccanegra
A powerhouse cast and some of Verdi's most sumptuous music fuel this sweeping story that mixes political turmoil with poignant family drama.
Baritone Quinn Kelsey stars as Simon Boccanegra, a leader coming into great power who must balance duty to his nation with his duties as a father after his long-lost daughter Amelia (soprano Ana MarÃÂa MartÃÂnez) reenters his life. Surrounded by poisonous rivals, can he be the man those who love him need him to be and survive the plots of those who hate him?
This is a new production with music by Giuseppe Verdi, libretto by Francesco Maria Piave and Arrigo Boito, and performed in Italian with English supertitles.
Performance dates are September 22, 24, 29, and October 1, 2023 at the Acedemy of Music in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia Ballet, tickets for two to one performance in the 2023/2024 season
About the 2023-2024 season: Experience the beautiful tension between classic and modern.
- Carmen (October 5-15, 2023) brings us bullfights, bandits, and lovers, whose passion burns as bright as the sun in southern Spain. Artistic Director Angel Corella's captivating and innovative choreography combines traditional Spanish dance and classical ballet to tell this tragic story set to Bizet's indelible music.
- Giselle (February 29-March 10, 2024) is perhaps the most beloved early Romantic ballet. Set in the forests of the Rhineland, it is the story of true love, real heartbreak, and the awesome power of forgiveness. Artistic Director Angel Corella's elegant choreography breathes new life into a timeless tale told on both sides of the grave.
- Dance Masterpiece (March 14-16, 2024) Experience the work of three of the most inspiring and influential choreographers of the 20th Century. Featuring iconic works-Alvin Ailey's The River, William Forsythe's In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated, and Twyla Tharp's In the Upper Room-it is a portrait of modern dance genius.
About the Philadelphia Ballet: Barbara Weisberger founded Philadelphia Ballet, formerly Pennsylvania Ballet, in 1963. It was her dream, fostered and encouraged by the great George Balanchine, to not only bring the best in dance to Philadelphia but to find local talent and develop those artists into world-class performers.
