Buy-A-Brick to Support the Kalina House

The Mark Kalina Jr. Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has provided support to traumatic injury victims for more than 10 years. This unique opportunity for charity was created in the wake of a tragic event experienced by the Kalina Family. Mark Kalina Jr. was involved in a pedestrian-train accident in October 2012 in which he became a bilateral amputee. Through Mark's experiences, he realized the deficiency in the number of resources available to victims of traumatic amputation. In order to mitigate some of the financial hardships, Mark decided to create a charity that would raise money for individuals faced with situations like his own.

Over the past decade, the Mark Kalina Jr. Foundation has become an integral part of the trauma recovery community in Northeastern Ohio and nationally. After years of planning, the foundation brought forward plans for The Kalina House - a transitional housing program aimed at supporting traumatic injury victims and their families. In the summer of 2021, The Kalina House received preliminary approval from Cleveland's City Planning Commission. 

Current plans for the Kalina House outline a 15,000 sqft transitional housing facility in the Fairfax neighborhood of Cleveland. The facility will be a single story building with 20 apartment style units - a mix of studio, one bedroom and two bedroom options for guests. There will be a courtyard and several shared living spaces to allow guests and their families to gather. Additionally, there is roughly 2,000-3,000 sqft that is planned for rotating programming and/or social services to support guests' return to independence. 

We couldn't be more motivated to get this project off the ground. Thousands of traumatic injury victims and their families have gone without this support for too long. With your help, we are looking to change that story - starting in Cleveland, Ohio.
