Texan Joe Finger laid out the fairways at Pleasant Valley Country Club in the late 1960s, one of several courses - including Bella Vista Country Club and Meadowbrook Country Club - that he designed during his career in the state of Arkansas.

It's said that the flamboyant former professional Jimmy Demaret, an old associate of Finger's, also advised on the layout. With eight lakes of varying sizes dotted around the property, it's hardly a surprise to learn that a number of the tree-lined holes bring water into play, especially on the closing three fairways, which run anticlockwise around a large pond.

In keeping pace with the modern game, all the greens on the main course at Pleasant Valley were replaced in 2009 with Bermuda grass putting surfaces.
