Child Advocates of Fort Bend's (CAFB) Christmas Home Tour began 31 years ago as a fundraiser by a core group of volunteers, many of whom are still involved, to keep the agency's doors open. This handful of women decorated their homes a little extra for Christmas, filled the air with the aroma of home baked cookies, showcased the talents of their musical children, then charged sponsorships and admission. The tour was a success and is now a pinnacle Fort Bend County holiday tradition. Each year a unique group of homeowners from varying neighborhoods participate by showcasing their incredible homes. There is now an eclectic variety of musical talent, cookies are baked by both young and old and fun elements have been added such as this new wreath auction which allows an instant purchase without having to wait until mid-December, a separate wreath raffle where $10 offers a chance to win the wreath of your choice and colorful custom designed holiday t-shirt's which can be worn during the tour and throughout the season. CAFB's mission is to Strengthen the Child's Voice, Heal the Hurt, and Break the Cycle of abuse and neglect for children and families in Fort Bend and surrounding counties. We operate two national affiliated programs, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) serving children ages birth to 18 years of age who have experienced physical abuse, sexual abuse or neglect or have been witness to violence. We also have a Community Engagement (CE) service line focused on outreach, awareness and prevention.
Child abuse is now regarded as a public health epidemic and we are using a Public Health Model in our treatment and response services, prevention and early intervention, and to address trauma and adverse childhood experiences. Our vision is to End the Cycle of Abuse and Neglect. We are experiencing a staggering 20% increase year after year of children needing services and it is not slowing. Last year alone we served 4,230 children and families. In fact, over the last 9 years CAFB has experienced a 300% increase in services provided to children and families. We rely on community support, such as yours, to continue our good work so children can recover from their trauma, build resiliency and go on to lead healthy, productive lives.
We are the only agency in Fort Bend County providing these services and since 1991, we have worked to restore the lives of over 20,594 children. Our services are free of charge and available in English and Spanish. We have a zero tolerance policy for child abuse. Please join us in our vision!
