ABOUT BLESSINGS IN A BACKPACK:

Blessings in a Backpack is a national organization made up of eight regional chapters and more than 1,200 volunteer-driven programs. Our mission is simple: we provide food on the weekends for school-aged children who might otherwise go hungry.

In the Orlando area, nearly 60,000 kids are at risk of going hungry this weekend. These kids rely on their school's free and reduced-price meal program to provide the nourishment they need to learn and grow. But, what happens to these kids when school closes its doors on Friday? Who will feed the kids this weekend? Together, we will!

We close this 65-hour weekend meal gap by providing nutritionally balanced foods, sent home in kids' backpacks every Friday. As a result, these kids have fewer health problems, longer attention spans, and perform better in school. During the 2022/2023 school year, the Orlando Chapter is distributing bags of ready-to-eat food to over 5,500 school-aged children at 40 program locations across Orange, Seminole, and Osceola Counties.
