Connections Sensory Playground

Connections' current playground space has minimal playground equipment that is aging and in need of replacement. This project will include the renovation of our current playground space and will provide sensory friendly playground equipment. The new playground will provide a wonderful place for getting the appropriate sensory input and practice needed to develop crucial skills. It will be designed to maximize play and support physical, cognitive, and social/emotional learning. It will not only benefit the Connections' students but will be used by their families during many family engagement activities throughout the year. The playground space will be an extension of our current health and wellness activities and will serve as a "learning lab" to teach our students how to play on a playground. We will then be able to generalize the skills learned on our playground to a community playground setting thereby offering our students and their families a successful, inclusive, community experience. It will promote a sense of belonging and a place where everyone come, engage, play, and contribute together.
