Falconry is the hunting of wild animals in their natural state and habitat by means of a trained bird of prey. The falconers hosting you today fly diverse types of hawks including Red tailed hawks, Harris' hawks, Goshawks, and American kestrels. Small animals are hunted like squirrels, rabbits, and small birds.

April Davenport-Rice will be the host for a party of up to four (4) adults in a morning of falconry in the greater Mecklenburg County area or Denton, NC area (multiple hunting grounds are available depending on where you live). Your falconry event can be scheduled between December 1, 2024 and February 28, 2025. Winner will coordinate the specific day and area directly with April.

Please not the following restrictions on this special event:

1) Must be at least 18 years old (on the day of the event) and able to keep up a minimum walking pace on and off trails

2) Good communication is imperative. Arrive on time and call or text your status if you are lost or late. The morning start time is firm.

3) Wear appropriate hiking footwear and clothing - even if it is warm.

-> Be aware that there are snakes and other critters in the fields and woods.
-> Bring your own insect repellant.

4) Cameras/photography/field glasses are OK.

5) Follow the falconer's instructions in the field regarding. Hawk-instructions vary according to the individual falconer!
-> You can talk all you want but keep calm; stay with the group.
-> Pulling vines; flushing game allowed ONLY if you hold a NC hunting license.
-> If you do not have a NC hunting license - just walk along and observe.

Time - 8:30 a.m. meet for coffee and donuts. Bottled water provided.

End Time - noonish.
