This set of decorative plates are from The Egyptian Collection No.1 by Danby and are #1,223 out of a limited edition of 5,000 plates.

Design 1: The Queen's Handmaiden

The scene illustrated is of a maiden gathering flowers and the fruit of the mandrake in the royal pavilion. Her broad royal collar, hair style and dress, show her to be a servant of high standing in the retinue of Tutankhamen's queen, Ankhesenamun. This intricate motif appears on the lid of a casket, designed in the form of a shrine, and decorated on all its sides with panels carved on a veneer of ivory and inlaid with ebony, facience and glass. It is reproduced here in stoneware - a natural clay product, used from the earliest of times.

Design 2: The King's Fisherman

The scene depicts the attendant to King Tutankhamen bringing in the King's quarry, a large fish and a wild duck, each impaled upon an arrow. The background shows water lilies, and the surround is composed of garlands, bouquets and plants used elsewhere on the casket. This is the first scene illustrated by Denby, from the most beautiful of caskets found in the annexe to the antechamber of the tomb to King Tutankhamen. It is made in stoneware - a natural clay product, used from the earliest times.
