About the artwork

My work on paper and sculpture are created by using a variety of mediums and techniques. I'll use watercolor and washes to capture the permutable nature of petals and sea creatures; photographs and collected ephemera to create intricate collage, and gouache paint in layers of boldly colored, amorphous designs and patterns.

Bio

Best known for her organic compositions, Delaware artist Susan Benarcik exhibits a range of artwork- from life-sized sculptural installations of natural and found materials, to highly tactile collage, and bold, abstract paintings that are influenced by her interest in botany.

Graduating with a master's degree in printmaking from Cranbrook Academy of Art, the artist began her career in Houston, Texas and later maintained a long-term studio practice in New York City. Susan's work is exhibited in galleries, museums, national art fairs, sculpture parks and a number of gardens and arboreta, she has been awarded multiple fellowships and awards throughout her career including a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant, and an NEA Challenge America Grant. Since Relocating to Delaware, the artist has received an Established Artist Grant from Delaware Division of the Arts, and is a founding board member of the non-profit, Jester Artspace, which aims to bolster creativity in the Brandywine Hundred.
