About the work

"Inked Growth - Red" is one of my series of abstract STRIPE collages. It was composed on three separate layers. I started with a cropped detail (8" x 8") of a photograph I shot of a person wearing striped clothing. I placed a print-out of the square photo in the exact center of the composition, and then continued its stripes with hand drawn India ink on transparent mylar. Next I arranged mulberry and other papers, beneath the transparent mylar surface, to reflect and extend the tones and textures of the central image. Finally I united the three layers into a single composition.

Bio

Florence Weisz is pleased to be part of the Philadelphia art community. Since moving from Northern NJ to Pennsylvania in 2018, Florence has exhibited her art with InLiquid (a 40 year retrospective), CFEVA, DaVinci Art Alliance, ARTsisters, Tri-State Artists Equity, and most recently at The Delaware Contemporary, where her site-specific installation, STRIPES ESCAPE, was on view for four months in 2023. She earned a degree in Fine Art from Douglass College, Rutgers University. She has studied and created art in New York, Paris, and in Jerusalem. Her artworks are in private, corporate and public collections including The New Jersey State Museum, Citibank, IBM and the Port Authority of NY and NJ. She is recipient of a NJ State Council Fine Arts Fellowship Award.
