Description/Inspiration:
This is a depiction of one of our water deities a mo?owahine or lizard woman. She is strength, confidence and a fierce woman to be reckoned with but first and foremost she protects our freshwater areas. She is beautiful and dangerous who can lure those she likes to her freshwater ponds, have her way with them and then discard them when she?s finished.
Artist Bio/Statement:
Tara Keanuenue Gumapac is a Kanaka Maoli Artist that lives in He'eia, O'ahu. She graduated with a Bachelors in Studio Art in 2008 and a Masters in Education in Teaching in the Ho'okulaiwi Program at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in 2010. Tara is an alumni in the HOEA Program in Waimea, Hawai'i; an alumni of the 2017 ILI - Intercultural Leadership Institute; a 2017 participant of the "Tears of DukwibahL: Gathering of International Indigenous Visual Artists of the Pacific Rim" and a 2018 WESTAF Emerging Leaders of Color alumni and the Fine Arts Department Head at Kal'heo High School. She is currently a 2022 First Peoples Fund Fellow for the Artist in Business Leadership.
