Description/Inspiration:

Being native in the city is hard. Having to be in an institution where the majority of the school is white, it's easy to feel like i don't belong and harder to feel like i am valid. But when i put on the smallest accessory such as my beaded earrings, i feel confident and proud to show off who i am in the smallest way. That is why i named this piece "almost ready" because with out my beaded possessions, i am not ready to conquer the day. Materials - Acrylic paint, mod podge for the finish, and colored pencil for the signature.

Artist Bio/Statement:

My name is Isabella Roman, and i am an Alabama Coushatta/Mexican Native American. I make my work based off what goes on in my day to day life and what inspires me. For me, my Mexican and Native American heritage motivates me to make my work connect to me, along with others, hoping to make people feel the feelings i feel while connecting to a art work that makes them feel accepted and loved.
