Description/Inspiration:

The original is on display on art walk at a local college that is on a 4 ft by 8 ft panel. I completed it in 2021 with spray paint and oil paint. "Connected " is a display of both Native American and American pride. That shows a young woman with roots in both worlds and has connections to both. The MMIW representation shows a growing problem for young native women and in American. I wanted to show that the problem is connected in both worlds. I wanted to bring to light that beauty and pain live together inside of young native women every where and there's power inside all them. That they have both worlds to help them both American and Tribal. This is a 1 of 2 giclee print the other is in my home and not for sale and no other prints are available. It's a hand torn giclee print on archival paper.

Artist Bio/Statement:

Stephen Saupitty, enrolled member of Comanche Tribe of Oklahoma. Lives in Temple, OK with wife of 11 years Angelica Saupitty with 6 beautiful children. Drawing most of my life with pencil, pen ,ink and painting really becoming a passion in the past few years. Mostly specializing in murals with spray paint, but oil on canvas is a new venture I'm trying out. I love to create and curate new artworks and when you can have a purpose or drive behind it and awaken a feeling with art it makes it that much better. I imagine the world would love to be more colorful and empowering and that's what I'm trying to convey into my works. Social issues really tug at my heart especially with the MMIW movement going and having daughters of my own I would like to help in the best way I could and that's to spark interest and or conversations about ongoing native issues. Thank you, dreamcatcher foundation, for the selection and thank you for checking out my art work.
