2000 Chateau Calon Segur Saint Estephe - A classic left bank bordeaux that has been described by critics as "racy," "vivacious," and a wine that "sings Saint Estephe." Chateau Calon is at the northernmost point of the Medoc region of Bordeaux and was classified as one of 14 Third Growths in the historic Bordeaux Wine Classification of 1855. Via marriage, the winery came to be partially owned by Nicolas-Alexandre, marquis de Segur, the owner of both Chateau Latour and Chateau Lafite. Segur, who was known as the "Prince of Vines" once said, "I make wine at Lafitte and Latour but my heart is at Calon Segur." The wine's modern day label is a tribute to that quote.
