2017 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru - Domaine de la Romanee-Conti (aka the "DRC") is widely considered one of the finest wine producers in the world. The DRC's history traces back to 1232 when a local monastery purchased a vineyard thought to have been cultivated by the Romans. Since the mid 1800s, the DRC's two owning families have produced what many say are the most sought after wines in the world. The Echezeaux vineyard consistently produces wines that are worth over $2,500 per bottle and the 2017 offering has been rated 96 by James Suckling. The winemaker describes this wine as "a country gentleman, aristocrat and dreamer, who idles willingly with the unhurried step of his horse in a forest filled with the scents of sundry mushrooms, mosses, decaying leaves and of furtive small game, which spill forth in a multitude of shifting alliances."
