This experience includes a Dance Workshop incorporating Dunham Technique and West African Dance with drummer Kenya Ajanaku and dancer Jamila Ajanaku.

Kenya Ajanaku is a nationally known drummer and storyteller whose talents have captivated his audiences for over 26 years. His signature program, "Rhythms and Folklore of Africa," is a unique combination of storytelling, drumming, and dance. He became a percussionist for the world-renowned Katherine Dunham Dance Troupe and sharpened his skills as a dancer in the dance company Cosaan.

Jamila Ajanaku, a native of Chicago, had the opportunity to study under the tutelage of Katherine Dunham at the Performing Arts Training Center in East St. Louis. She worked at Southern Illinois University for 35 years and returned in May of 2014, after working with the East St. Louis Charter High School where she taught Dunham Technique, encouraging students to consider careers in the arts.

This workshop will be held at a mutually agreed upon date and time scheduled directly with the artist.

Donated by Kenya Ajanaku.
