This is an ukiyo-e reproduction of one of Hokusai's most well-known works, a part of the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. It is said that Umezawa in Sagami is named after Ninomiya Town near Odawara. It looks like a place deep in the mountains, with the area around the towering Mt. Fuji shrouded in mist and not a single house to be seen. The indigo blue color scheme also contributes to the atmosphere of the deep mountains, but the four cranes and the flying cranes on the front make the whole piece very impressive.

Edo woodblock prints began as simple black prints colored with a brush. These subsequently evolved into tan-e, beni-e, and urushi-e, eventually resulting in a printing technique in which colors were applied directly to the wood, followed by two- and three-color prints (benizuri-e). In 1765, it became possible to print intermediate colors as well as gold and silver, opening the door to multicolor prints.
