Rickover, H(yman) G(eorge), Admiral U.S.N. (1900-1986) Printed document. MENU FROM A 1945 DINNER HONORING CAPTAIN RICKOVER. Washington, D.C. 14 March 1945.

Folio: a single printed sheet, approximately 17 x 12 inches.. Rickover was assigned to the Bureau of Ships as head of the Electrical Section throughout WWII. This menu is a remarkable relic of Rickover's WWII accomplishments.

Captain Hyman George Rickover was a tough, mean and productive leader who tackled problem after problem within the Navy's electrical engineering group head-first with critical success. Respected through results by the Bureau's leadership, but often hated by those on the receiving end of his verbal blasts. From the words on this menu the leaders of BuShips viewed Rickover as an engineering hero.

Decorated with maps, palm trees and distant ships at sea, the menu includes a Toast that reads:

"To The Captain, A Leader and A Fighter. May his Contributions to the Navy Continue."

The center of the menu continues with:

"Dinner in honor of Captain H. G. Rickover United States Navy, on the occasion of his Detachment as Head of the Electrical Division, Bureau of Ships, Navy Department. 14 March 1945, Hotel Twenty-four Hundred, Washington D.C."
