"I chose to paint the iconic Dnieper River as a tribute to a beautiful land now encumbered in loss and turmoil. The blues and yellows in this piece echo the colors of a flag now flown around the world in solidarity with Ukraine. Though half a world away, this land feels almost familiar with its blue skies and wildflowers on the riverside. I'm reminded of the universal value and power of beauty, peace, and life, and the importance of fighting for those same things."

Kristen Tye grew up on the Wasatch Front, loving art from a very young age. She graduated from USU in 2015 with a BFA in Drawing and Painting. Landscapes have since been the focus of her work, inspired by many scenic areas of Utah. Black lines and a rich, muted palette give Kristen's acrylic paintings a modern essence. She has sold hundreds of original paintings in Utah and across the country. Currently, she paints from her in-home studio in eastern Washington, where she and her husband are raising three young kids.
