Bio
Sunshine Cobb is a ceramic artist who specializes in functional pottery. Cobb is recognized for her utilization of traditional techniques, creating handbuilt and thrown objects glazed in bright colored slips, which has given her national and international success. Her rustic approach to ceramics is meant to communicate a sense of home, memory, and wanderlust.
Cobb was born in Vancouver, B.C., and grew up in Southern California. She attended the California State University, Sacramento where she received her B.A. in studio art (2004) and later attended Utah State University where she received her M.F.A. in ceramics (2010). Cobb has experimented with several ceramic techniques throughout her practice, ranging from sandblasting, slipcasting, and eight-day anagama wood firings, and is currently working with electrogama (electric firing). Cobb has taught at several institutions including, Utah State University, Sonoma Community Center, and the Diablo Valley College.
Cobb has been the recipient of various honors, including 2013's Emerging Artist by the National Council of Education and Ceramics Monthly, a residency at the Sonoma Community Center, and a long term residency through the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, MT. Cobb's work can be found in The Rosenfield Collection, Dallas, TX.
