About

Kopal has earned a MFA in Ceramics from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) USA and a BVA in Painting from MS university, Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda.

She was a resident artist with The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, PA, USA. Her work has been featured in HyperAllergic (an online arts magazine, based in Brooklyn, New York), Providence Dily Dose (A local providence RI news paper) and metro Philly (A local Philadelphia news paper) among many other platforms.

She has shown at various exhibitions in India and the U.S., Amongst which is a Solo show at The Clay Studio, PA and group shows at The Gelmen Gallery-RISD Museum, The Lacoste/Keane Gallery, Concord, MA, and Art Centrix Space, New Delhi.

Artist Statement

"Across the stages of migration, I have confronted levels of emotional and social complexities. Being away from home and country has given me a deeper appreciation and respect for Indian culture and encouraged me to celebrate it in its materiality.

I am learning to embrace and harness the purity within the moments of destruction that come easy while working in clay. The brokenness and nothingness of such fragments form the backdrop of my work as they rescale their presence in relief.

I project my observations gleaned from a fast and changing world to populate the surface of objects, to create an overwhelming visual that captures a system of chaos within and around.
