In the 19th century, industrious farmers and distillers in the heartland of the United States barreled and shipped their rye whiskeys down the great Mississippi River to the bustling, growing city of New Orleans. These spicy and assertive spirits fueled the whiskey culture of New Orleans and established the first American cocktail, The Sazerac.
W. L. Weller is a brand of "wheated" bourbon whiskey. Like all bourbons, Weller is distilled from a mash composed of at least 51% corn. The secondary grain used for the Weller brand is wheat, whereas most bourbons use rye. The bourbon was named after William Larue Weller, who was a distiller in the early days of Kentucky. He was supposedly the first to produce straight bourbon using wheat instead of rye in 1849.
Weller Special Reserve Green Label: The Original Wheated Bourbon Whiskey features an exceptionally smooth taste, substituting wheat for rye grain.
