A familiar scene is depicted here in 1944. A B-17 Flying Fortress of the American 8th Air Force, damaged and down on power and speed, has lost touch with the formation. Alone in the sky, it would be an easy attack for the enemy fighters of the Luftwaffe. Luckily, a P-51 Mustang long-range escort pilot, also low on fuel and ammunition, had assessed the B-17 and helped "ride shotgun" for the journey back to the safety of British airspace. This is a signed print by Robert Taylor.
