Making pottery is in Sid Luck's genes as he is a multi-generational potter. In 1994, Sid was the recipient of the Living Treasure of North Carolina Award given by UNC at Wilmington's Museum of World Cultures. And, in 2014, Sid was awarded the prestigious North Carolina Heritage Award by the NC Arts Council honoring his lifetime contribution to the cultural traditions of North Carolina. His son, Jason, is both an accomplished attorney in South Carolina and a potter. Mandee Pritchard, a local sculptor, painter, and interior designer, began working with and learning pottery from Sid a couple of years ago.
Sid, Jason, and Mandee collaborated to make this great traditional face jug. Sid turned the two-handled jug and added one face. Jason added the second face, and Mandee added a bird for an additional sculptural flourish! The glaze is Sid's "crawdad slip" which is normally green but turned wonderful honey and caramel colors in Sid's wood-fired kiln. A special piece! 8.5" H
