Artist Statement: I create functional and sculptural works out of porcelain. I am inspired to create for those for who seek a heightened sense of intimacy with the objects that they use every day. By making everyday objects extraordinary, we can build a connection to the act of creating. The medium itself has taught me to be more patient and centered; to stay strong when the world seems unbalanced. I hope that there is a sense of that in my work. The outside of these mugs feature a fern motif. Ferns are a symbol of good fortune, endurance, light and protection in cultures around the globe. It is my hope that these cups will carry these traits with them as they are filled and emptied daily - bringing good fortune and endurance to all who use them.

This set of four cups features food safe glaze. While handwashing will extend the life of the surface, they can be put in the microwave or dishwasher.

Artist Statement: I enjoy making every day pottery every day. Marrying my love of functional pottery and delicious food brings two of my passions together. My highest compliment is when a repeat customer says, "I use your work every day." That means another human hand touches my hand work daily. I am also very humbled when a family chooses to place their loved one's cremains in one of my urns. Thinking about that family entrusting human ashes within something I made is personally gratifying. Teaching is my way of helping to build a vibrant clay community. My students frequently challenge my thinking and inspire new forms and finishes.
