In 1895, Adolphe Pinard, a French obstetrician, designed an elegant, trumpet-shaped instrument for listening to babies in utero. The pinard was made of wood and featured a single diameter opening drilled through the center. Using this mechanism, sound made by the fetal heart is transmitted to the listener's ear. This replica WORKS and is made from exotic wood, hand turned by Ginger Breedlove's husband, and partner in Grow Midwives LLC, Joe Booth, JD.
