Blanton's Gold Edition was the second version created, after the Original 93 proof. This 103 proof Blanton's Gold is extremely limited, but a favorite among discerning bourbon aficionados. John E. Fitzgerald, at the time a bonded treasury agent founded his distillery after the civil war ended and sold his brand "Old Fitzgerald Bourbon" to Julian P. "Pappy" Van Winkle who moved production of Old Fitz to his distillery, added a "whisper of wheat" to it where Old Fitz Bottle-In-Bond became one of the most famous bourbons in the world.
